AIHA is a forward-thinking 501(c)(6) professional society headquartered in Falls Church, VA. We employ approximately 50 staff, operate a $17m operating budget, manage two 501(c)(3) and three laboratory-related LLCs, and represent the interests of nearly 8,500 individual occupational and environmental health and safety professionals.
The Communications Specialist is responsible for collaborating with the marketing and communications management team and coordinating communications projects with stakeholders on staff. Additionally, he/she will develop and create content and communication/production schedules for all print and some digital channels (including company websites, blogs, etc.)
Work with AIHA staff to develop, update and manage content and copy for AIHA websites to ensure maximum online usability and to communicate AIHA’s value proposition.
Work with marketing and communications management to draft, fulfill and track metrics for all AIHA content (including social media, web updates, etc.).
Research, write and edit SEO-rich copy for AIHA’s multiple websites, video scripts, and other content as needed. Take a proactive approach to improve our communications and brand across all online channels.
Using a guidance document on quality control standards prepared by the web team, review and edit all content for Q.C. standards before sending to Marketing Manager or other designee to publish on the website(s).
Responsible for making sure the SOPs related to SEO and taxonomy are carried out accurately.
Populate content and digital images on websites and manage website image library(ies).
Research, write and deploy press releases and media alerts, as directed.
Track AIHA media coverage on a regular basis.
Work with managing director, marketing and communications to build, manage, and maintain the association’s press contacts and network.
Work with multiple owners of particular content to revise, measure effectiveness, and ensure consistent, accurate content.
Research, write and edit print content assets including: membership marketing materials, invitations to events, conference marketing materials, and general informational brochures.
Ensure all print and digital content is aligned with target audiences.
Work with marketing manager to schedule social media posts, as needed.
Participate on AIHA Network TV team, writing scripts, conducting interviews, developing questions for interviewees, lining up interviews, filming, identifying visual and audio assets, editing, production, and keywording for SEO value.
Coordinate the design of promotional material and distribute in online and offline channels.
Monitor corporate website, blogs, and social media and address member and public queries.
Update AIHA employees (via intranet) about new MarComm programs and campaigns.
Revisit and/or develop SOPs on all areas of responsibility.
Maintain enterprise Style Guides with updated information and logo/graphic usage, as needed.
Manage house ad program for Association magazine, conference publications, and app program.
Successful candidates should have the following:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing, Communications or a similar major plus at least 2 years’ demonstrated experience writing/editing engaging marketing content (in print and specific for the web), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Flexible writing style to address multiple audiences while maintaining the brand voice; able to write short copy (and condense large amounts of copy) as needed for social, digital, and mobile environments to convey precise, concise messages; demonstrated experience writing blog posts a plus.
Self-starter with initiative and drive.
Must possess a strong ability to develop new topics, research, and find a unique angle on existing topics for integrated use.
Familiarity with analyzing marketing campaigns and site analytics or can demonstrate a basic understanding of them.
Familiar with working within a structured Association management system (AMS) and/or a SharePoint environment.
Experience in editing and proofreading required.
Some travel required (conference attendance).
